Today the locals reclaimed the streets for the St. Marks Place block party where street was shut down to make way for BBQs, fire hydrants, dodgeball, a Meat Pie eating contest (yes as in the Aussie meat pie) and local music artists.

Every weekend there would be excessive noise coming from the courtyard at back of our apartment. This weekend I decided to capture what was going on.

Today I met Frankie. Frankie has a custom bike that he spent 8 months creating. He tells me he parades it all round the neigbourhood because it’s his pride and joy. It’s fully equipped with a car stereo blasting Latino music, a police siren to warn people to get out of his way (or to let them know he’s coming) and a cooler to chill those popsicles. Pretty pimp I say.

I came across this lady on the street in East Village. I thought she was a bit of nutter but she assures me she’s not. She tells me she looks after all the buildings in the neigbourhood. Never assume anything in NYC!
