day 534: obama in town, houston st lock down.

They shut down Houston St when Obama was in town. Traffic re-routed, cars being towed, it took me 1hr to cross over the street. It was chaos.

I walked past the these cops and this punk guy covered in tatts in the Lower East Side tonight. Such contradiction. I had to take a shot.

We tried to go to the opening of the Shepard Fairey May Day show on Saturday but there was no way I was going to line up around the block and twice over to get in. Wooster st and what seemed to be most of the block around Deitch Gallery was in total kaos from people waiting/trying to get in and causing a muck on the street. I was happy to get this shot which I think captured the vibe very well.

Walking home tonight I encountered this horrific scene. A fire broke out in an apartment block on Grand St leaving 60 families without a home. It took 250 firefighters to conquer the blaze.
