day 520: Danger Mouse & David Lynch

Last night I attended the launch of Danger Mouse’s (in collaboration of the recently departed Sparklehorse) new album Dark Night of the Soul. The album was launch via 50 photographs by David Lynch which intrepreted every track on the album. I’m not a massive fan of David Lynch, however, I was pretty impressed by his photographic eye and vision. Go see it at the Morrison Hotel Gallery.

Dark Night of the Soul included a roll call of guests with Lynch himself, the Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys, Jason Lytle, Julian Casablancas, Black Francis, Iggy Pop, James Mercer, Nina Persson, Suzanne Vega and the late Vic Chesnutt.

day 499: creators project nyc

On the weekend I went to The Creators Project launch party at Milk Studios. It was one of the best events I’ve been to in NYC. Spike Jonze premiered his new film, exhibtions and installations by famous architects, musians and artists. I also got see MIA, Interpol, The Rapture, Gang Gang Dance, XXXChange, Mark Ronson and Neon Indian. As I said AMAZING EVENT.

For the past 4 years The Adicup has bought together New York’s creative community to compete against each other in Soccer. We drank free beer and ate free BBQ while watching the likes of Vice, Fader, Opening Ceremony, Freemans, La Esquina, V, The Smile and ACE Hotel go head to head.

Last week I started my first portrait photography class at ICP. The first assignment was a self portrait. I had no studio or proper lighting equipment to work with and even if I did, I would have no clue as to how to use it. So I did what I knew best and took it to the streets (of Lower East Side).

day 438: shepard fairey kaos

We tried to go to the opening of the Shepard Fairey May Day show on Saturday but there was no way I was going to line up around the block and twice over to get in. Wooster st and what seemed to be most of the block around Deitch Gallery was in total kaos from people waiting/trying to get in and causing a muck on the street. I was happy to get this shot which I think captured the vibe very well.

On Friday night I had 4 of my photographs exhibited at a show at the Greenpoint Gallery. It was also a contest, where best in show would win their own solo show. I didn’t win but I made it into the final 10 out of the 300+ photographs on display. Thanks to my friends to came and supported me!
