My good friends Nini and Jen pictured below used to DJ and run a mid week night called NVR SAY NVR at a bar called Kings Cross. Must say the music selection is the best NYC has to offer. They describe their music as ::NEWWAVEPOSTPUNKBRITPOPINDIESOULSHOEGAZEROCK::. I’ve been promising the girls that I would do a post for them ever since the first time I was there. I’ve been so slack that the night has now finished up so this is a back dated post in memory of NVR SAY NVR. Not to worry though, they are putting on another bi-weekly Sunday night gig at Sweet Paradise.

day 226: nvr say nvr
day 224: it's my birthday!
My first NYC birthday I spent with my friends having a nice dinner at Lil Frankies.
day 222: boothomatic
Boothomatic is a portable photobooth. Instead of sitting inside the booth you grab your friends and shoot outside of it via a wireless trigger. Below shots are: 1. Me shooting the Boothomatic shooting us. 2. The shot Boothomatic shot of me shooting it shooting us!
Last night a Flash Mob broke out around me while I was ordering dumplings from the Rickshaw Dumpling Truck. One minute the crowd was still the next minute they busted out into a choreographed dance. Afterward I found out that it was organized for a surprise birthday of some famous stylist from Sex and the City.
day 220: Vices & Virtues
Tonight I went to a pretty awesome photography exhibition at Jack Studios – Vices & Virtues. Free food and alcohol in an amazing studio space overlooking the Hudson and Midtown.
day 218: Carini and Cass
Tuesday night. Met up with some friends, Carini and Cass, from Syd at a BBQ in Brooklyn. So nice to be at a Bar-B. I think its the first proper one I’ve had since arriving in NYC. Miss it.
Today I visited for the first time the American Museum of Natural History. They currently have an amazing space show on called Journey to the Stars. The show is performed on the roof of the planetarium where images are shown from telescopes on the ground and in space and you’re launched through space and time to experience the life and death of the stars in our night sky. Amazing story, production and learning experience. A must see.
Making most of the last of the warm days in Summer. Happy hour with friends – half price delicious cocktails at Back 40.
Today the locals reclaimed the streets for the St. Marks Place block party where street was shut down to make way for BBQs, fire hydrants, dodgeball, a Meat Pie eating contest (yes as in the Aussie meat pie) and local music artists.
day 214: nice ride
day 213: DBGB
Tonight I caught up with my old mate Phil who was in town. We went to DBGB – Renowned French Chef Daniel Boulud’s newest restaurant in Downtown Manhattan. With 14 types of sausages (ingredients included: pigs head, trotter and tripe), hot dogs and escargots the menu was pretty interesting to say the least. We had ‘The Frenchie’ which was a burger made from confit pork belly – simply scrumptious. Although I don’t think it beats my local favourite, the short rib burger at Spitzers.
day 210: pecha kucha nyc
Tonight I attended a Pecha Kucha event. Pecha Kucha means ‘chit chat’ in Japanese and the event was conceived as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. What makes it interesting is its format: Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show. The presenters were from all walks of life including: an architect who worked on the new Cooper Square building, a product designer who designed a more ergonomic version of the Kindle and an art collective who reconstructs devastated buildings in South America, into community artworks. The presenters were really inspirational and I was amazed at what they’ve achieved already in their young age. Makes you wonder what you’re doing with your life…
day 209: Justin Long
Tonight we bumped into Justin Long – the Mac guy from the Mac ads. We had to get a photo with him.
