Today Mr Scruff played at a summer event called Sunday Best. It was held at the Brooklyn Yard which literally feels like someone’s backyard. People not only brought their dancing shoes and drinking hats, as well they bought their kids and dogs. The non pretentious family vibe created an atmosphere that was super relaxed and easy going. People were there to have fun. This is such a great event concept. Really a breath of fresh air in my eyes – I will definitely be back.

day 103: anomaly
Today I met with one of NYC’s most innovative agencies Anomaly. This forward thinking business is headed up by a selection of industry greats and has an approach to advertising that is anything but conventional. They partner up with their clients to deliver advertising and marketing solutions that not only solves a communications problem but a business one as well. You can read for yourself here – a recent notable Converse campaign that Anomaly created which involved commissioning Pharell, Santo Gold and Julian Casablanca to write and perform a song then giving it away for free. A successful brand building campaign connecting with audiences and driving advocay.
day 102: the frog
Came across this creepy frog tonight at Mama’s Bar in East Village. Which coincidentally is next to Mama’s Food Shop where I ate my first meal in NYC on Day 1.
By the way today is my 100th day in NYC – just in case you didn’t notice.
day 99: memorial day
Today was Memorial Day. It’s the American version of ANZAC Day. Funny that it felt on 25th of this month too. A group of us got amongst the festivities at Prospect Park, Brooklyn. It seemed like every man, his dog and frisbee was there. This is pretty much the first park & BBQ experience I’ve had since arriving. It was a great day – I miss grass, sun, outdoors, barbies and trees so much!!
day 98: punk rockers
day 97: moma
Today was my first MOMA visit. It was everything I thought it would be plus much much more.
day 96: zoltar
day 95: abc no rio
One of the my first recollections of Lower East Side was walking past this place at night and metal music was blaring with punk-esque kids crowding around the doorway rocking out. Since then I’ve walked past it many more times and have always wondered what it was. Today I decide to take photo and in researching for this post, I’ve found out that it is a social center which plays hosts to matinees, trying to give unknown hardcore, indie and punk bands a place to start. These gigs are run by kids who don’t drink or smoke and there’s a strictly no alcohol policy.
day 94: claudette colvin
This piece of street art is located in SoHo. I really like it. You can read about Claudette Colvin here.
day 93: macao trading co.
Tonight I met up with some friends at Macao Trading Co. in Tribeca. The top level of this place is a restaurant decorated like an old warehouse filled with antiques behind caged displays, running around the back perimeter, accessible only by ladder. The food is really interesting – because Macao was colonized by the Portuguese, everything on the menu had a Chinese version and a Portuguese version. Then descend downstairs and you walk into a bar situated in what was an old opium den. The bar was filled with very interesting erotic Chinese artworks and paraphernalia, to say the least…
day 91: shooting hobo gestapo
Last weekend I was invited to tag along with new friend and photographer Hobo Gestapo on his shoot at various events around NYC. I decided to do a cover his journey – in essence I’m ‘photographing a photographer photographing’ make sense? . We met at Cabin, known for its after gig clientele of bands touring NYC. Owned by an ex-Strokes member, Cabin is one of those ’secret’ New York bars where you have to walk through a pizza joint to find it. Next stop was the ‘Fischerspooner, Larry Tee and DJ Falcon‘ gig at Webster Hall. We ended our night at Chloe 81, where the focus was on Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace who was hosting her birthday party.
day 90: droga5 & chicago
Today I finished up contract at Droga5 – (Creative agency of the year and quoted in The Guardian as the ‘World’s most exciting Agency’). I had the opportunity to go to Chicago – unfortunately, because it was all business, I didn’t get many more photos than below.
day 89: manhattan bridge
Today I went to the New York Photo Festival in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Feeling inspired, I took a few creative shots of my own with the Manhattan Bridge.
